Photographic Shenanigans for your enjoyment

Dust Bowl 2007

Well, some unfortanute decisions were made. I decided not to bring my camera to Bonnaroo and risk it being taken away. Little did I know the search process was quite lackluster. Here's how it went down:

  • "Hello. Have you guys been to Bonnaroo before?"
  • "Yes."
  • "So you didn't bring anything you shouldn't, right?"
  • "We hope not."
  • "Open up the back, please."
  • "Okay."
  • Safety Inspector looks in back of SUV, sees massive pile of bags, food, and camping gear.
  • "Alright, have fun guys!"

As I was there I really didn't feel I'd enjoy taking pictures anyway. It was nice to just enjoy the weekend instead of worry about the camera. Also, apparently central Tennessee hasn't seen any measurable rain since April. Result? Massive amounts of lung-attacking dust. My camera isn't weather sealed, so I'm glad I didn't bring it.

Anyways, on tap for tomorrow (Sunday the 24th): BOATING! The camera will be coming on this trip.

Bonnaroo! ...maybe

For those of you not in the know, Bonnaroo is a 4 day music festival held in Manchester, Tennessee. I'll be leaving wednesday night and coming back sometime on monday. It should be a great time with some great bands, but I've got a few photo-related concerns:

  • Direct Quote from Bonnaroo website: "No Professional Photography Equipment (small hand held cameras without additional lenses are fine)"
  • Risk of rain
  • Risk of theft
  • Leprechauns
Now, I'm fairly confident in my ability to prevent theft, but when I'm sleeping: all bets are off. Even if I hid my gear bag in the car I'd still be worried about it. The rain risk seems to be limited to isolated thunderstorms. And, as a weather geek, I know that means they'll be hit-or-miss. I can deal with that. I also really doubt that they strip-search your car for photography equipment. I'm assuming I can just hide it under a bunch of junk and not worry about it. Also, their site says "Professional" equipment. Well, good sirs, I am not a professional! Ha!

But the Leprechauns... those sneaky shoe-polishing punks. I'll be waiting... watching...

Hopefully I'll take my camera. I still haven't decided. We'll see when I get back!
